The Grey-breasted Prinia is an extremely active and vocal warbler, characterized by its olive-brown plumage, long tail, reddish eyes, and a distinct grey band across its breast.
Species Ecological Profile
Sourced from high-confidence eBird and regional field surveys
Scrublands, tall grass patches, forest undergrowth, agricultural edges, and shrubby home gardens. Prefers dense, tangled lower vegetation.
Insectivorous. Searches foliage diligently for caterpillars, beetles, ants, and spiders. Feeds actively on nectar from flowering shrubs like Hibiscus and Erythrina.
Permanent resident. Shows no significant migratory movements, staying within its local territorial scrub year-round.
June to September (coinciding with the summer monsoon). Sews broad living leaves together using spider silk to create a hanging nest pocket, lining it with soft cottony fibers.
Common but often hidden in Naukuchiatal's garden borders. Spotted moving in small, active, chattering groups, flitting low between dense shrubs.
